The Aborigine drama film 'Samson & Delilah' (S&D) won the Best Feature Film at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA). A total of 37 countries had been nominated in this year's event. The storyline of this heart-warming debut feature film for director Warwick Thornton, is about the romantic encounters of two young Aborigine teenagers. The roles of Samson and Delilah, played by debutants, Rowan McNamara and Marissa Gibson are an exceptional showcase of talent due to the nonverbal communication and the characters are portrayed using mostly facial expression of emotions.
The film was nominated 13 times at the Australian Film Institute Awards and had already won six awards at the Inside Film Awards in Australian.
The Jury Grand Prize in the APSA is shared by a Palestinian and an Iranian production. Israeli Elia Suleiman directed the Palestinian film, "The Time Remains" which is about the geographical formation of Israel, and it signifies the debut of a Palestinian entrée at the APSA. Iranian director Asghar Farhadi who is also the playwright for the intriguing film, 'About Elly', won the APSA Best Screenplay Award.
