Nintendo would really hit back hard if you would post one of its biggest selling releases online before it is officially launched and goes on store shelves.
According to a report in Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald, Nintendo will get paid 1.5 million Australian dollars for loss of sales income by a man who apparently illegally copied and posted the New Super Mario Bros. for Wii. This was before the game was officially released last year.
According to Australia’s Copyright Act, it is illegal to copy and distribute video games without approval. This was used by Nintendo to sue James Burt in court and was granted a search order to access Burt’s computer. Burt, 24, has agreed to pay $1.3 million and repay the video game company $87 000 for legal costs incurred.
Nintendo has warned that it would take legal action by anyone who tries to jeopardize their industry.
It has been a tough battle against piracy in the video game industry as they are so easily shared illegally online. Just by downloading for free, everyone can play without taking any money out of their pockets. However, how this chap is going to pay back all this amount is really amazing.
