Asus ZenFone 3 release date set for June, confirms Asus CEO
The release of the successor to the Asus ZenFone 2 has been pushed to next month, confirmed Asus CEO Jerry Shen. The ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 Deluxe and ZenFone 3 Max were expected to arrive at the upcoming Computex 2016 event, which is scheduled to start on May 31.
Now, the company has set the ZenFone 3 release date for June 2016. However, Shen did not mention any specific date for the launch of the forthcoming ZenFone family, targeting the mid-range market.
According to DigiTimes (via Phone Arena), Shen revealed that the company would mostly use Qualcomm and MediaTek chipsets to power the new ZenFone 3 lineup. He also clarified that in this year, 90 percent of the ZenFone 3 smartphones will be powered by a Qualcomm processor while only 10 percent devices will be shipped with a MediaTek processor onboard.
From August 2016, the ZenFone 3 smartphones will be available in six countries, confirmed Shen, as reported by the Taiwanese publication. But there is no confirmation if the smartphone will hit the shores of Australia. This year, the Asus ZenFone 3 price may also increase across the board.
The company predicts that about two-thirds of the global ZenFone 3 family shipments will be accounted by ZenFone 3 Max. Earlier in January, two ZenFone 3 smartphones were spotted in GFX benchmark listings.
According to the listing, the Zenfone 3 variant codenamed Asus Z010DD will sport a 5.9-inch display with a screen resolution of 1,280x720 pixels. Powered by a 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC paired with Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB/3GB of RAM, the smartphone will be shipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. This variant is believed to be the Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe.
Another handset which is believed to be the Asus ZenFone 3 bears a codename Asus Z012D in the benchmark listing. The device is listed with a 5.5-inch Full-HD display with 1920x1,080 pixels in the benchmarking site. Other specs of the purported Asus ZenFone 3 include a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of in-built storage.
