Australian metalcore band I Killed the Prom Queen members Jona Weinhofen, Kevin Cameron, Jamie Hope , Shane O’Brien and Benjamin Coyte were detained in Malaysia after performing without visas. Recently, the Adelaide band was released from the immigration detention.

According to Weinhofen, he and his band mates received a poor treatment while in detention in Malaysia even after it was revealed that the fault was with I Killed the Prom Queen’s promoter. In the Muslim-majority country, foreign musical acts considered to be offensive to Islamic sensibilities commonly run into problems, according to The Guardian .

On the other hand, Malaysian immigration department’s director general Mustafa Ibrahim eventually released an apology to the band, Weinhofen revealed . Aside from being the lead guitarist of I Killed the Prom Queen, Weinhofen is also a Los Angeles-based model signed with Wilhemina Models, according to Sydney Morning Herald .

Formed in 2000, I Killed the Prom Queen has released three studio albums. In 2007, the band failed to find a permanent vocalist so the members had to split up. In 2011, it was reformed with Hope as the new vocalist, O’Brien as the new drummer and Coyte as the new bassist.

After their release from the Malaysian immigration detention, Weinhofen, Cameron, Hope , O’Brien and Coyte have yet to have further gig dates. The band with the current members released a studio album titled “Beloved” with 11 songs on Feb. 14, 2014.

The debut studio album of I Killed the Prom Queen with the former members was released by Resist Records in December 2003. Titled “When Goodbye Means Forever…,” the album included 11 songs.

On July 31, 2006, I Killed the Prom Queen released its second album titled “Music for the Recently Deceased” with its former members. Its original version had 11 songs but its tour edition released on May 19, 2008 had seven bonus tracks.
