‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ season 3 features a new Rebecca
“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” is coming back for season 3 and it will have something fans will look forward to. The new season will feature a new Rebecca Bunch who also seeks revenge against Josh.
Co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna teased that the upcoming season will feature changes on Rebecca (Rachel Bloom). She said the series protagonist will be trying a new persona in the third season.
“[She’ll be the] person who is very, very, very romantically obsessed in the face of opposition and apathy from this person, with the added element of revenge and what she thinks she deserves. She feels she deserves something now,” McKenna told Deadline in a panel on Sunday.
In season 2, Rebecca left her job at a New York law firm to find love in West Covina, California. She fell madly in love again with Josh Chan (Vincent Rodriguez III). However, John left her in the altar in the finale. John realised he is not ready to have a family and instead decided to become a priest.
This deeply hurt Rebecca and also brought the abandonment issues her father caused to her. Rebecca vowed to seek revenge on Josh.
In addition, more flashbacks about Rebecca's past will be seen next season. McKenna said Rebecca’s mental health history will be explored this season. Bloom’s character had revealed that she suffers from anxiety and depression. In the debut episode of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” was seen taking prescribed pills.
Moreover, Scott Michael Foster has been promoted to series regular on season 3. The actor appeared in five episodes in season 2.
Foster portrayed Nathaniel Plimpton, a lawyer from a prominent family. He was introduced in the previous season as a possible love interest for Rebecca. Brosh McKenna teased that Foster would keep his status should the romance/comedy series continue to another season.
David Hull was also promoted as a series regular. The actor played Josh Wilson, Rebecca fiancée’s friend and surf-casual fitness instructor also known as White Josh.
Meanwhile, the cast have performed eight songs from season 2 in front of the TV Academy voters at the recent 2017 For Your Consideration. The show’s musical numbers have became a viewer-favourite.
McKenna, however, admitted that not all songs prepared for the series were used. She said some were dropped because they didn’t work on the episode. “The storytelling and the theme are more important than the songs,” she told Deadline.
No release date has been confirmed for “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” season 3. Previous seasons premiered in October. Season 2 currently airs every Thursday on Network Eleven in Australia.
