'Curb Your Enthusiasm' season 9 release date: New trailer shows Larry David as Julius Caesar
The six-year wait for "Curb Your Enthusiasm" season 9 will end on Oct. 1. HBO confirmed the release date Sunday courtesy a trailer that depicts creator Larry David as Julius Caesar.
Last June, when the show announced a ninth season, David simply said, "In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, 'I left, I did nothing, I returned.'" In typical David fashion, the quote ended up on the teaser poster and trailer that can be seen below.
The extended gap between seasons 8 (2011) and 9 (2017) led many to believe that David had given up on the iconic comedy series, which stars the Seinfeld co-creator as an over-the-top version of himself. However, David was admittedly forced to wear his writing cap once again after facing peer pressure from loyal fans, co-stars and HBO, who were collectively clamouring for another season or two.
Curb Your Enthusiasm season 9: Lauren Graham to join the cast
Though the press release only confirmed the return of cast favourites such as Jeff Garlin (Jeff Greene), Susie Essman (Susie Greene) and JB Smoove (Leon Black), several earlier reports and interviews have earmarked the return of Cheryl Hines (Cheryl David), Ted Danson (himself), Mary Steenburgen (herself), Richard Lewis (himself) and Bob Einstein (Marty Funkhouser). Former Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham will be guest starring, too.
Garlin, one of the executive producers of the show, recently told ABC News that David has outdone himself for the forthcoming season with a storyline that "is rather insane" and will amaze restless fans who have yearned six long years. "It’s coming back with all the things about it that people love. But it’s not following any big formula. The storyline is rather insane. Like people are going to go, 'I can’t believe they’re doing this!' That’s what they’re going to say. And I don’t often think that with our show," Garlin said.
At the end of season 8, David and Smoove flee from New York to Paris to simply avoid partaking in a charity fundraiser hosted by Michael J Fox. David had previously fled from Los Angeles to New York for the very same reason. Despite the show's return to Los Angeles, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" season 9 could likely begin with David and Smoove's adventures in Paris.
"It felt like putting on an old pair of shoes. The first scene I shot was with Larry (David) and JB Smoove, who plays Leon. And we all began laughing because there was no hiccups, there was nothing," added Garlin, hinting at a carry-over from the season 8 storyline.
