“Designated Survivor” fans are eager for answers. It is unknown whether the American political drama will be cancelled or renewed for another season on ABC.

While the Alphabet Network has released some details about the Season 1 finale, questions remain whether the 21st episode “Brace for Impact” will be the last episode or not. ABC has stated that the season finale will be a nail-biting one where Hannah Wells (Maggie Q) has to stop the conspiracy from carrying out a final attack. President Thomas Adam “Tom” Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) will authorise a nationwide manhunt to catch the mastermind behind all this.

The political thriller stars Maggie Q as Hannah Wells, Kal Penn as White House Press Secretary Seth Wright, Tanner Buchanan as Leo Kirkman, LaMonica Garrett as Mike Ritter, Italia Ricci as White House Chief of Staff Emily Rhodes, Adan Canto as Aaron Shore and Natascha McElhone as First Lady Alex Kirkman. The story unfurls after an attack on the Capitol. The attack devastates the presidential line of succession, and HUD Secretary Kirkman becomes the President of United States of America.

The first episode of the series set a record for DVR viewers with ratings reaching 7.67 million, even surpassing the 2014 record of seven million set by the pilot of “How to Get Away with Murder.” As per TV Series Finale, the first season of “Designated Survivor” is currently averaging 5.93 million total viewers, 1.27 in the demo. It is a no-brainer that fans desperately want the show to come back with a second season. In fact, Deadline recently reported that Keith Eisner, former executive producer of “The Good Wife,” will be joining the party.

Eisner will reportedly run the show as well as executively produce the second season of the Kiefer Sutherland starrer. Even though the next season hasn’t yet been confirmed by ABC, rumours suggest there are high chances that it will come back. Eisner would be the fourth showrunner of the series after Amy B. Harris, Jon Harmon Feldman and Jeff Melvoin. The David Guggenheim-created “Designated Survivor” has been a massive hit among viewers. It is the most-watched scripted series in Live+7 with 11.4 million viewers.

The show’s production is a bit complicated with Guggenheim scouring the scripts written by writers in Los Angeles and Sutherland filming the series in Toronto. Tune in to ABC on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET to see what awaits President Kirkman and his company on “Designated Survivor.”
