Ed Sheeran Confirms Split With Girlfriend Who Inspired 'Thinking Out Loud' Athina Andrelos
Ed Sheeran admitted he broke up with girlfriend Athina Andrelos. The 24-year old cited busy schedules and attention from female fans as the main reasons behind the split.
Sheeran once said Andrelos inspired his hit single “Thinking Out Loud.” Unfortunately, fame resulting from Sheeran’s soulful voice and catchy songs just may have ruined his relationship with Andrelos. In an interview with Australian radio show, The Kyle and Jackie O Show on KIIS 1065, the singer now confirmed that he is single. He said that he was in a relationship for a long time but is now unattached. It seems that the breakup is still a touché subject for Sheeran as Kyle’s co-host Jackie O noticed the singer starting to look distraught when sharing that information. Sheeran acknowledged that it is the first time he spoke of the topic and he was not prepared to be asked about his relationship status.
Sheeran shared that he and the Food Team production assistant at the Jamie Oliver Group broke up back in February because Sheeran has been extensively busy as a singer and Adrelos cannot take the attention he has been receiving from female fans.
Before Ed Sheeran finally confirmed this news, there were already several reports claiming the relationship is rocky earlier this month. Some sources claimed that Athena got jealous of Taylor Swift’s closeness with the singer. Swift publicly thanking Sheeran during her acceptance speech as she received the International Female Solo Artist award at last month's BRIT Awards may have also triggered the jealousy. In Swift’s speech, she said she would not up onstage receiving the prestigious awards if not for one of her best friends, pertaining to Sheeran. Swift said the “Sing” singer usually took her to pubs and taught her everything about the UK.
A source had earlier also told Sunday Mirror newspaper that the relationship “might have run its course.” "Things haven't been as good and Ed has just headed off on a world tour which will keep them apart for months,” the source shared. "There have been a few fallouts and the latest seems to be more serious,” the source added.
