Scott Adkins is currently filming a Marvel comic book movie. Among the characters the martial artist is known for is Hector in Simon West’s “The Expendables 2” with Australian actors Mel Gibson and Liam Hemsworth.

Adkins has joined the cast of the “Doctor Strange,” a source told The Wrap. The character he will play in the fantasy adventure movie is yet to be revealed, but insiders told the publication that he will have a number of major action scenes featuring unarmed fight.

Set to be released by Disney on Nov. 4, 2016, “Doctor Strange” is directed by Scott Derrickson, and the screenplay is written by Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer and Jon Spaihts, based on Steve Ditko’s comic book. The movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams and Tilda Swinton.

The film is about a brilliant but arrogant neurosurgeon named Stephen Strange. The character discovers a secret world of magic and alternate dimensions after a horrendous car accident.

Aside from “Doctor Strange,” Adkins will also star in four other 2016 films, namely, “Jarhead 3: The Siege,” “The Brothers Grimsby,” “Criminal” and “Eliminators.” Before “The Expendables 2,” among the sequel movies he previously starred in are “Black Mask 2: City of Masks,” “Undisputed 2: Last Man Standing” and “Undisputed 3: Redemption.”

In other news, Adkins' co-star in "The Expendables 2," Gibson, is currently in Sydney filming the World War II film “Hacksaw Ridge,” which will wrap in December. It is Gibson's first directorial movie since the 2006 movie “Apocalypto,” which starred Dalia Hernandez, Raoul Max Trujillo and Gerardo Taracena.

“Hacksaw Ridge” is about a WWII American army medic Desmond T. Doss, who will be played by Andrew Garfield. The screenplay is written by Randall Wallace, Robert Schenkkan and Andrew Knight based on the story by Gregory Crosby. The 2016 film is Hollywood producer Bill Mechanic’s third movie shot in Australia.
