'Game of Thrones' Season 6: A new side of Melisandre
Melisandre will not be the same in “Game of Thrones” Season 6 after what happened to her king. In a recent interview, cast member Carice Van Houten talked about how her character will be different in the next season and why she really liked to play the character this time around.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Houten said that her character is finally going in a “different direction.” After being shown as the cold and confident Red Priestess in the past few years, she will now be shown to be “completely confused.”
Her fire sacrifices in the previous season did not give her the result she wanted and that may have shaken her faith in her abilities. The actress said that she really liked playing this new Melisandre, as she is used to playing characters who are vulnerable, sympathetic, anxious and doubtful.
In fact, playing a confident character like Melisandre was a “great challenge” for Houten. The actress also revealed that she received a lot of hate messages after she offered a major character in the previous season to the fire god.
[Spoiler alert]
Stannis (Stephen Dillane) agreed to sacrifice his daughter Shireen (Kerry Ingram) in the previous season, for which the fans were very angry with Melisandre. The fans apparently told Houten that they would forgive her if she brings Jon Snow (Kit Harington) back in “Game of Thrones” Season 6.
The cast members of the TV series, including Harington, have repeatedly said that Jon Snow is dead. A sneak peek video from the next season posted on the YouTube channel of Team Coco shows Jon Snow as a dead body.
However, the scene also shows members of the Night Watch trying to get Jon Snow’s dead body for some reason while Davos (Liam Cunningham) and a few others are trying to protect it. Will Davos try and bring Jon Snow back in “Game of Thrones” Season 6?
