Marissa Miller has decided to join PETA’s cause in boycotting SeaWorld in the animal welfare group’s newest campaign protest ad. The provocative ad shows the supermodel posing in an empty bathtub showing off her bare pregnant body, aiming to raise awareness over alleged animal exploitation at the said marine park.

The 36-year-old Miller, who is currently pregnant with her second child, stripped down completely and showed off her baby belly in the sultry PETA photoshoot, putting herself in the position of captive killer whales and orcas, hence the small bathtub she was enclosed in, E! News stated. The ad, whose text reads, "SeaWorld: Separating Babies and Mothers Since 1970" as well as a message asking fans to "Boycott SeaWorld," targets to raise consciousness on calves separated from their mother whales or orcas at a young age, forcibly taken to parks and confined to tanks.

In the accompanying interview, Miller revealed that she has always been an animal lover and an ocean conservation advocate, and that she was inspired to pose for PETA after seeing the “emotional” 2013 documentary “Blackfish,” which focused on the controversy over captive marine mammals separated from their young before the latter could live on their own. "I think any mother knows the sense of protection and connection you have with your baby," she said.

The expectant model also admitted that she was unaware of the harsh ways the young marine mammals were captured and separated from their mothers, adding that they even had to be drugged to adapt to their new environment, Demanjo stated. She also hoped that people will support PETA’s new campaign and that they will eventually stop supporting the parks.

Moreover, orca trainer John Hargrove, who has spent 14 years at SeaWorld, also opened up about the parks’ practices during an interview with NPR. The author of “Beneath the Surface: Killer Whales, SeaWorld and the Truth Beyond Blackfish” revealed that he has seen the “devastating effects” of captivity on the whales and orcas, and that at first he thought he could change things, but as time went on, there had been no improvements in the ways the park handled their captives. He added that there was indeed the notorious practice of separating calves from their mothers, and that trainers were being blamed for their own deaths after a series of whale and orca attacks.

Meanwhile, SeaWorld has been keen on debunking the claims of animal abuse, responding to NPR that they have never moved a calf from its mom before they reached four to five years, which was the age they start to gain independence. A SeaWorld spokesperson also told Huffington Post in an email, "Contrary to what you see in PETA’s campaign, SeaWorld understands the importance of keeping killer whale mothers and their dependent calves together. Mothers provide support and nutrition and we do not and would not interfere with that, unless the mother or calf’s life was in danger." The spokesperson also invited people to check their website for information on the park’s animal care practices.
