Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is the new Miss Universe 2015. The 26-year-old beauty from the Philippines took home the crown for the most beautiful woman in the universe after impressing the judges with her poise, elegance and beauty at the gala night. 1. What's in a name?
A lot actually. Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach takes her name from two countries. She was born to a German father and a Filipino mother in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. She takes her middle take Alonzo from her mother, while her last name is from her German father.
2. Acting since childhood
Wurtzbach joined Star Magic Talent, a modeling and acting agency for young children in the Philippines, at the age of 12. In 2002, she made her acting debut in a teenage afternoon TV show titled “K2BU.” Apart from many television shows, she also acted in a few movies, including “Kung Ako Na Lang Sana” (2003), “My Life”(2004) and “All About Love” (2006).
3. Background in Fashion
Wurtzbach is a stylist, makeup artist and beauty writer for a Philippines-based magazine Inquirer Lifestyle's 2bUsection.
4. Loves to cook
Wurtzbach also has a Culinary Arts degree as she is a graduate of the Professional Culinary from Center for Asian Culinary Studies in San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines.
5. Romantically linked to President of Philippines
According to South China Morning Post, Wurtzbach is rumoured to have a fling with Benigno Aquino III, who is the President of the Philippines since 2010. According to the website, Wurtzbach described Aquino as “very fun to talk to.”
Wurtzbach was crowned Miss Universe after winning the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant held at the Planet Hollywood hotel on Sunday (December 21) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Miss Columbia Ariadna Gutierrez was first runner-up, with Miss USA Olivia Jordan coming in third.
The contest had a dramatic ending when presenter Steve Harvey accidentally revealed Miss Columbia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner initially, but he corrected his error on live television.
