'Orange is the New Black' season 4 spoilers: Piper's death foretold? Season could be the show's darkest yet
Original air date on Netflix: June 17, 2016
There are rumors that Season 4 of “Orange is the New Black” will be its darkest yet. Some also speculate that Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) will die in the new season. Netflix recently featured the drama series’ most dramatic trailer yet for Season 4.
The video began with some jokes from Suzanne (Uzo Aduba) and Taystee (Danielle Brooks), although the story changes into a darker tone eventually. Litchfield Prison will be handling several new prisoners. Warden Caputo (Nick Sandow) will most likely be in charge of the new inmates, and trouble is expected at the facility.
The Season 3 finale ended with the cliffhanger potential death of Alex Vause (Laura Prepon). The character was not spotted in the trailer, so fans are already speculating her potential role in Season 4.
Season 3 ended when Soso (Kimiko Glenn) was overdosed, although Taystee, Suzanne and Poussey (Samira Wiley) were present to rescue her. Season 4 will show what happens in the conflict between Flaca(Jackie Cruz) and Gloria (Selenis Leyva) and Leanne (Emma Myles) and Norma (Annie Golden). Poussey and Soso are also expected to grow closer. They were seen hugging each other in the promo trailer.
According to PopSugar, there are also reasons why Piper will be killed off in Season 4 of “Orange Is the New Black.” After three seasons, the focus has changed from Piper to other inmates. Piper’s role has continuously been getting smaller through the years.
The actress agreed that Piper’s outside appearance is becoming less and less important. The character is moving away from her concept of herself and becoming more practical. Her main focus in the meantime is to survive, which also explains why she put less attention to her hair.
Schilling said that it will be a tough year for Piper, but she did not divulge whether she will be alright during the season. Fans are already thinking that the character may resort to more extreme measures through the season, which will subsequently result to her phasing out.
“Orange Is the New Black” will be released on June 17 on Netflix. More updates and details are expected soon.
