'Outlander' season 3: Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe finally off to South Africa, Comments from Emerald City Comic Con
Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are finally off to South Africa to start filming the remaining episodes of “Outlander” season 3. The cast members were in a panel discussion at the Emerald City Comic Con, where they shared some details about the show, and also answered some fun fan questions.
The production crew is already getting the sets ready in South Africa. Heughan (Jamie Fraser) revealed during the panel discussion that they are scheduled to leave the day after the Emerald City Comic Con. On the episodes that have already been filmed, the actor said that he has seen a few bits, and he added that he is excited for the fans to see what they have created.
Droughtlander is considerably long this year. In case the fans are wondering why they can’t just start airing the episodes that have been filmed already, Balfe (Claire) explained that they have to at least film the end of the show before the start airing the beginning. The team still has to do the editing during the post production phase, after the filming is complete.
“Outlander” season 3 will begin with the separate timelines of Jamie and Claire. On the reunion of the two main characters, Balfe said that “somebody” went off to become a printer. Heughan did a mock dance in response to that comment.
A picture of Claire right after giving birth to Brianna was released online previously. Heughan accused Claire of marrying someone else after she left Jamie. Balfe pointed out that her character thinks that Jamie is dead, so there aren’t many options for her. She did what any mother would do, which is to try and survive. The actress emphasized the point that no matter what the situation is her character is a survivor.
In order to try and get Jamie out of her mind, Claire will focus her energies on her work in “Outlander” season 3. She will be seen training as a doctor this year. The actress said that it is a continuation of Claire’s story from the season 2 finale. As an actress it’s a challenge to tell a story that spans 20 years in just a few scenes, she said. Although it is the separate storyline of Claire this year, it is still a story of how the loss of Jamie affects her, and how that transforms her into the woman that she becomes two decades later.
One of the fans wanted to know about the break Heughan and Balfe will get after season 3 filming wraps in June. The cast members revealed that work has already started with scouting for locations. There will be a short break for at least the cast members, but they refused to reveal more for fear of getting in trouble with Starz.
The fans have heard a lot about how Claire changes over the years, but precious little has been revealed about Jamie. When asked about how Heughan approached this aspect of his character this year, he attempted to answer the question without revealing any spoilers or the “naughty things” that he is not allowed to speak about.
In terms of the story, the fans who have read “Voyager” already know what’s about to happen, and the show will follow the book pretty closely, Heughan said. The actor teased that his character is not himself at the beginning of “Outlander” season 3. He further teased that his storyline will be about the journey of how his character will go back to being the Jamie Fraser he used to be. That journey will begin after he reunites with Claire. This reunion will fill him with new life and he goes to new surroundings, and later his past will come back to “haunt” him.
