‘Pokemon Stars’ update: Game could be extended cut of ‘Pokemon Sun and Moon’; Nintendo Switch release widely-anticipated
A new Pokemon game is reportedly coming to Nintendo Switch and it could possibly be named “Pokemon Stars.” It could be like an extended cut port of “Sun and Moon” or a side release such as the Pokken Tournament. Otherwise, it could be a completely new sequel.
If the upcoming game is a side release, such as the Pokken Tournament, it could be in line with Nintendo’s Pokemon release approach for consoles like GameCube. Speculations are running wild, and many believe that the “Pokemon Stars” game will be a port of the 3DS “Sun and Moon” titles. New cool features may be added to the game. It will be very much like what “Pokemon Yellow” is to “Red and Blue.” No release date has been confirmed yet, though rumours point towards a mid-2017 reveal.
The game may be finally released late-2017 or mid-2018. It will be playable on Switch. Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara hinted in 2016 that the company is interested in making games for the Switch, then known as the NX. Series producer Junichi Masuda was however less optimistic, though he never discounted the possibility. He played diplomatic stating that he was waiting for the console to be released, so that he can determine if it would benefit from a Pokemon game.
It was during late 2016 that a Eurogamer report hinted at a possible new version of “Pokemon Sun and Moon” and that it was already being developed for the Switch console. In fact, the report went on to say that this third title was made along with “Sun and Moon.” The game was initially expected to be released in 2017 summer months but was then pushed back to 2018. In March, GameFreak made the speculations alive once again, after it spotted a job ad on Indeed Japan. The ad was about hiring people temporarily for creating character models on machines such as PlayStation Vita and Wii U.
The ad hinted that this was for a new entry in an RPG series that has acquired global fame. While the job posting never mentioned Pokemon anywhere, fans were more or less sure that it was for that only. TechRadar has laid out what fans are expecting to see in the upcoming game “Pokemon Stars,” and they include better animations and graphics, a very well-translated user interface, a mainline title, more uses of the Festival Plaza and of course new Pokemon.
