Renowned director, Oliver Stone has been honored a “Master of Cinema” award by the Boulder International Film Festival.

The award said The Boulder Daily Camera, was presented to Stone on Sunday, which served as the highlight at the last night of the festival.

The screenwriter and director received recognition for his films most of which have received nominations and awards from prominent accolades like the highly-coveted Academy Awards.

According to the Associated Press, Stone have been nominated for 31 Oscars Awards and has won three Oscars. These include the Best Adapted Screenplay for “Midnight Express” (1978); Best Director for “Platoon” (1986) and “Born on the Fourth of July” (1989).

His online biography stated that Stone rose to fame beginning in the late 1980s and the early 1990s for directing a series of films about the Vietnam War, in which he had participated as an American infantry soldier. The British newspaper, The Guardian described Stone as “one of the few committed men of the left working in mainstream American cinema”.
