'Star Wars: Episode 8' theory: Benicio Del Toro not playing a villain
A new theory about “Star Wars: Episode 8” looks at the possible role played by Benicio Del Toro. After the casting announcement of the actor there was a lot of speculation about him playing the role of a new villain. But, the theory suggests that this may not be the case.
[Spoiler alert]
In a theory posted on YouTube, Mike Zeroh looks at the possibility of Kylo Ren’s (Adam Driver) screen time being reduced to accommodate Del Toro’s character. Mike doesn’t believe this will happen and is also of the opinion that the actor is not playing a new villain to replace Kylo Ren.
Mike said that it will be interesting to see Del Toro play an anti-hero who is willing to go to any extent to achieve his goals. He explained that it would be interesting to see Laura Dern’s character introduce the anti-hero in the middle of the first act.
Del Toro’s character could be seen in “Star Wars: Episode 8” as the leader of another faction in the galaxy that is opposed to the First Order and also hates the Resistance. The new faction could collaborate with the Resistance in order to take on the common enemy.
Mike believes the twist will come towards the end of the movie, and throughout the film Del Toro’s character will be seen as a good guy that the audience will root for. In the end the First Order will be seen as a defeated side, and the fans will start to wonder who the heroes will face in the last film in the new trilogy.
Towards the end of “Star Wars: Episode 8,” Del Toro’s character will turn against the Resistance after taking over the First Order, according to the theory. Mike believes that the new character could go on to become more important than Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) and emerge as the biggest threat in the final movie.
