‘Suicide Squad’ star Margot Robbie helps underprivileged kids in the Philippines
“Suicide Squad” actress Margot Robbie recently went to the Philippines for charity work. Instead of simply donating money, the Australian actress and her friends cooked for underprivileged children from the slum areas of Cebu, the oldest city of the Philippines.
Rise Above Foundation Cebu project manager Elisabeth Hansen took to Facebook to share how she and Robbie met. She said she was on her way back to Cebu when she met the “Suicide Squad” actress and her group and they talked about sponsoring a feeding program.
Hansen also posted on her Facebook page photos of the “Suicide Squad” star and her group chopping carrots, prepping Baguio beans and stirring a pot of porridge. They helped feed around 400 Filipino children.
In an interview with CNN Philippines Digital, Hansen revealed that Robbie and her friends had fun preparing the food. It was also the group who served the children with the food they cooked for them.
“They went with our team into the depressed area to give out the meal tickets,” Hansen said of Robbie and her group. “I hope the story will inspire others to do a kind deed and support good causes.”
It appears that Robbie still managed to find time to get involved in philanthropy while she is set to play Harley Quinn in the upcoming film “Suicide Squad.” The action film to be directed by David Ayer will hit theatres on Aug. 5, 2016.
Ayer also wrote the screenplay of “Suicide Squad” based on the comic book by John Ostrander. Joining Robbie in the cast are Cara Delevingne, Jared Leto, Will Smith, Scott Eastwood, Ben Affleck, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, and Ike Barinholtz, among others.
Meanwhile, Robbie’s former “Neighbours” co-star Hamish Blake recently told News.com.au that he was responsible for giving the “Suicide Squad” star the confidence to pursue her Hollywood dream. Robbie starred in the Australian soap opera from 2008 to 2011.
