So the tabloids were right. In a revealing new confession actor Tom Cruise has admitted to the court that his ex-wife Katie Holmes left him to protect their daughter Suri from the cult of Scientology. During Holmes' marriage to Cruise she too followed the cult religion of a Scientology but was not convinced about it.

The 34-year-old Holmes opted out of marriage from Tom and hence Scientology as she gained the custody of seven-year-old Suri. The media and gossip magazines were abuzz with rumors that Katie left Tom because of the cult he follows. When the court asked Tom to explain the rumors, he did not take that question in a good manner and got angry about it, according to Radar Online.

"Listen, I find that question offensive," an angry Tom shouted out according to a 36-page deposition transcript obtained by RadarOnline.com. "I find it, those statements offensive. Like with any relationship, there are many different levels to it. You know, I, I find it very offensive. There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion."

When the court further questioned Tom about the reasons of their divorce as Scientology, he confessed to it. "And Ms. Holmes has never indicated in any way that was one of the reasons she left you? ...To protect Suri from Scientology?"

"Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes," Tom confessed.

"Is Suri currently practicing Scientology?" was the next question to which Tom answered "no."

Cruise's confessions have come during his ongoing lawsuit with Bauer Media, the publishers of In Touch magazine, whom Tom Cruise is suing for a cover story titled "Abandoned By Daddy." The "Mission Impossible" actor is suing the magazine for $50 million for defaming him in the 2012 cover story.

Tom Cruise has hit back at the magazine saying he is still ''extremely close'' to his daughter Suri after his divorce from her mother Katie Holmes and spends quality time with her and called the daughter-abandoning allegations "false."

''I have in no way cut Suri out of my life - whether physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise,'' the hurt father retorted back. Cruise also has two other children Connor, 17, and Isabella, 19, whom he adopted with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
