The US Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, approved a thermal device that looks like a pen which stimulates production of collagen in the opening of the female genital. When used, the woman’s vagina becomes tighter, while it gives the private part plumper and firmer appearance.

To improve the appearance of their lady parts, a growing number of women are undergoing medical procedures such as labiaplasty and vaginaplasty. The increasing popularity of such procedures is explained to childbirth and age that affect the physical appearance of the female genital.

From 2013 to 2014, there was a 44 percent increase in such procedures, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Surgery. Vontouring just added to the list. The procedure is called Protégé Intima, also known as vontouring, which is the non-invasive and non-surgical remodeling of the vagina’s inside part, reports Mashable.

The device uses radio frequency to treat in the latest and safest way the groin part also popularly called lady lips. While using the device, the patient undergoing vontouring feels a warm sensation for about 12 minutes, said Dr Sharon Giese, a cosmetic surgeon. After the procedure is done, the woman can immediately leave the clinic since there is no recovery time. But using the gadget for Protégé Intima is actually an off-label use.

Before vontouring, women who had wanted to approve the appearance of their genital had to undergo bloody, painful and costly skin grafting. Besides avoiding those inconveniences, Protégé Intima also gives women better sexual pleasure, according 4 of the 10 women who had the procedure because of increased sensitivity from the tighter skin, said the 2013 study.

As for appearance, 80 percent observed moderate to excellent results of their labia. Another 60 percent reported moderate to excellent impact on sexual sensation and libido, reports Cosmopolitan. Raegan Sidley, 26, from Britain who was one of the first to try Protégé Intima, said the procedure was more pleasant than a bikini wax.

At just over $300, vontouring is just 6 percent of the $5,000 price tag of labiaplasty. Cosmetic surgeons recommend four sessions to achieve optimum results.
