George Michael, who died on Sunday at the age of 53, was the first guest star in James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” before it was even on “The Late Late Show” in 2011. Before it became a segment of the said show, “Carpool Karaoke” was a Comic Relief charity.

During the said “Carpool Karaoke,” Corden was in character as “Gavin and Stacey” star Smithy with George taking the wheel. The two were singing Wham! songs. They were both wearing the same sports top Smithy was known to wear.

Back in June, Corden revealed some information to Stephen Colbert about the first car-ride singalong together with George. The comedian said that there was something very joyful about it. “We wondered if it was an idea. Los Angeles, traffic, car pool lanes, Karaoke, traffic, driving people in the car, singing.”

He added that his original idea was to pick George Michael up from prison in a car. “And then we realised maybe we’ll lose the prison aspect. But what if there’s still some fun for me and George to be in the car and we’ll sing some Wham! songs?” The sketch has been recorded and has been a hit ever since.

Mariah Carey, Elton John, Michelle Obama and other A-list celebrities have all taken part in the “Carpool Karaoke” segment in “The Late Late Show.” Corden usually picks them up and they will drive around as they sing songs together and have some hilarious conversations. Recently, the guest star was Bruno Mars who belted out his popular song as of the moment which is “Versace on the floor.”

George Michael is one of the best singer, songwriter and producer in the music industry. He is popularly known as a member of the music duo "Wham!." He died from heart failure which was confirmed by his publicist.

When Corden heard that George died, he was saddened and posted on Twitter saying “I've loved George Michael for as long as I can remember. He was an absolute inspiration. Always ahead of his time."
