1 Dead, Another Wounded in Separate Sydney Shootings
Teen Shot by Police in his Home Survives
An unidentified 19-year-old boy was shot in his own home by policemen who responded to a call around 1 a.m. that three prowlers had broken in at a house in Holmes Street, Colyton, Sydney.
The victim's sister, who also requested anonymity, said her brother was in stable condition.
"The person who was shot is a resident of the house," declared Police Superintendent Ray Filewood. He also announced that a special investigation team was formed to look into the shooting.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the owner of the rented house, who did not want to be named, said the family was quiet and paid its rent on time.
Neighbors reported seeing nothing suspicious and hearing nothing during the night.
Police and forensic experts have been in the scene more than 12 hours after the incident to conduct their examination.
A woman, who is believed to be the victim's mother, was rushed to nearby Nepean Hospital for treatment of shock, according to another report from Seven Network.
Also in Sydney, a man believed to be 20 years old was found dead in a gutter of Kincumber Road in Bonnyrigg on Sunday before the Holmes Street incident.
Only last June, the same property was riddled with gunfire and in a separate incident, a car smashed into it.
A person was believed to have been arrested by the police in connection with this shooting.
Witnesses were asked by police to get in touch with authorities.
