10 Canadian Teenage Boys Face Child Porn Charges, Exploiting One Another’s Girlfriends
Ten teenage boys aged between 13 and 15 pleaded not guilty of charges related to child pornography. They appeared in Laval youth court in Quebec. One of the boys was caught by a teacher possessing explicit photos which were allegedly captured with SnapChat, a smartphone application.
Apparently, these 10 boys were arrested by the Laval police. They were accused of selling photos of one another's girlfriends. Most of these photos were taken on their smartphones. All the 10 boys have been charged for possessing and distributing materials related to child pornography. Two of them face charges of producing child pornography, CBC reported.
Constable Nathalie Lorrain informed that one of the Laval high school staffs found a male student showing sexually explicit photos of a girl to other boys. With this incident, parents and police were called. Lorrain said it was 10-boy network which solicited young girls whom they knew pretty well.
The boys attend a number of high schools under the English-language Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board. The boys have been released and expected to reappear in youth court on Jan. 20. However, these boys will not be allowed to have any communication with the alleged victim. They are prohibited to have any access to the Internet if there is no supervision is available by school authorities or parents.
Seven girls have been identified by the authorities. Some of them were pressured to have their photographs taken while some were tricked to believe that those photographs would be immediately deleted, CTV Montreal reported. Some girls believed that it was fine to send their photographs through SnapChat while allowing photographs to appear only for seconds and will also disappear after. There was no possibility that the photographs could be distributed by taking a screenshot. It is yet to be known how the photographs were distributed online.
CTV Montreal interviewed one parent on Thursday, who was apparently surprised to know that the boys faced legal charges for such an issue.
