Sue Cull was bitten by a python in Swansea on her way to a takeaway curry.

The 10-feet python bit her on both legs while she was walking through a field of long grass. Ms Cull, 47, was awestruck to be bitten by a python near Swansea city centre, as the species are mostly found in Africa and tropical Asia. Police confirmed that there was a report lodged for a missing python from a home nearby. The python has now been captured safely.

Ms Cull stated that she found her right leg to go black. She was shaking and failed to get warm. Her face started to swell up. She found it bizarre to be bitten by the huge creature. Nobody, according to her, expects to be bitten by a python while going for a walk in a city.

She also complained that police should have informed the people in the locality that there was a serpent on the loose. She would never have taken a walk through the long grass otherwise, she added. At first, Ms Cull thought that it was a minor injury which caused the pain. However, she found blood streaming onto her shoes when she looked down.

Ms Cull thought it acted in her favour that she had not seen the creature that bit her. Otherwise, she would have severely panicked. She returned home with the injury when her partner enquired if she had tripped as she was profusely bleeding. They had to call an ambulance when they failed to stop the bleeding with an ordinary first aid kit. She was later informed by the paramedics that she had been bitten by a serpent.

Doctors at Morriston Hospital confirmed, after consulting with the Medical Reptile Unit in London, that the bites were from a python. Bites from pythons, which constrict their prey, are not considered poisonous

Ms Cull said that it was difficult to believe that she had been bitten by a snake. Even the medical personnel in the hospital were astounded, she said, as that was the first time they had to deal with a python bite. Ms Cull had to go under X-rays to make sure that there were no fangs left in her legs. She said that she felt lucky that she had not been constricted by the python.
