10 Halloween Pumpkins feat. Pop Culture Faves including ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Hunger Games’ and ‘Justin Bieber’ [SLIDESHOW]
Every year Halloween comes and creative pumpkin designs come out as well. Gone are the days of simple Halloween pumpkins with triangle shaped cut outs for its eyes. Nowadays, designers and carvers try to outdo each other with each of their intricate designs. It's always interesting to see what they come up with, especially if these pumpkins are designed with pop culture icons including popular celebrities like Justin Bieber, favorite movies like "Hunger Games," and books like "Game of Thrones."
1. Game of Thrones
Inspired by the books written by George R. R. Martin and the HBO TV series "The Game of Thrones," created by D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, this pumpkin was carved with the House Targaryen sigil featuring a dragon with 3 heads.
2. The Hunger Games
Inspired by the hit novels and the film "The Hunger Games," by Suzanne Collins, this pumpkin is carved with the familiar mockingjay symbol featured on the cover of the first book. The symbol was designed by Tim O'Brien. Mockingjays are fictional crossbred birds, bred from genetically engineered male jabberjays and female mockingbirds.
3. Justin Bieber
Inspired by pop star Justin Bieber, this pumpkin design is definitely meant for the "Beliebers," out there.
4. Darth Vader from Star Wars
Inspired by the famous villain from the "Star Wars," films by George Lucas.
5. Gollum from The Lord of the Rings
Inspired by "The Lord of the Rings," novels from J.R.R. Tolkien and the movies directed by Peter Jackson, this pumpkin was designed in honor of the villainous Gollum, the ex-hobbit who became obsessed with the ring created by Sauron, calling it "My Precious."
6. Hello Kitty
Inspired by the adorable cat from Sanrio, this pumpkin design is so cute and looks easy enough to do at home. The photo was taken by Tohru Kao (Flickr/Tohru) using a Sony NEX-5N camera in Gilroy, California.
7. Totoro
Inspired by the anime film "My Neighbor Totoro," written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, this pumpkin features Totoro, the magical spirit creature who befriends a girl named Mei Kusakabe. The photo was taken by Tim Regan (Flickr/dumbledad) using a Canon EOS 1100D camera.
8. World of Warcraft
Inspired by Blizzard Entertainment's massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), this pumpkin uses the "World of Warcraft Alliance," logo. The photo was taken by Casey Fleser (Flickr/somegeekintn) using a Nikon D40 camera.
9. Mario from Super Mario Bros.
Inspired by the 1985 classic platform video game from Nintendo, this pumpkin pays homage to the main character Mario, who is a plumber with a penchant for mushrooms and a brother named Luigi.
10. Pac-Man and Ghosts
Inspired by the beloved 1980 arcade game from Namco, this design pays tribute to Pac-Man and his annoying ghosts out to destroy Pac-Man and prevent him from eating his favorite pellets.
