The day doctors tested 15-year-old Jonathan Buchanan of his bone marrow compatibility with his twin brothers, Josh and Jordan, all he ever prayed for was it to be the confirmed donor.

His twin brothers are identical and are suffering from sickle-cell anemia. This disease affects greatly the red blood cells of the body and the two have been in pain since the time of their birth.

According to their mum, Kristine Buchanan, the day their lives were changed when a phone call confirmed that Jonathan was the one who can donate the bone marrow to save the lives of his brothers. Dr Dorothea Douglas of Phoenix Children's Hospital said that the transplant can happen to only one patient at a time. To determine who among the twins will get it first, they interestingly played paper, rock and scissors which Josh won.

So just before the transplant, Jonathan spent the entire day just to have his bone marrow taken out from his pelvis. Josh had his successful transplant in October 2012 and is completely cured of the illness.

Just last week, Jonathan donated his bone marrow again to cure this time his other brother, Jonathan. Dr Douglas added that there surely might be some discomfort as the body accepts the bone marrow, but all the pain and suffering in the process will be worth it.

On the other hand, the teen hero brother is looking forward to enjoy a basketball game soon again with his twin brothers. Ms Buchanan said that once everything is over with their struggles, then she plans to spend a nice vacation with her boys which she has not done for quite a while as a single mum.

Can you go as far for your own siblings?
