2-Year-Old Maryland Boy Shoots Himself Dead
A 2-year-old boy from Maryland died after shooting himself to the head inside his family's home, MyFox DC reported online.
The boy was alone in the room, police said, adding that investigations are ongoing as to how the boy got the gun that he used to shoot himself. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The boy lived in Oxon Hill at the Riverside Plaza Apartments. The gun was fired on the second floor, just before 8:00 p.m. according to reports.
Police say the child was at home with an adult relative at the time of the shooting, but was not in the same room.
"Investigators need to determine who's gun it is, why it was in the house. That's going to play a big part in where they proceed from there," said Cpl. Evan Baxter of Prince George's County Police. "And then what the supervisor was doing at the time, whether or not the guardian was negligent in letting the child alone in the room."
Police say detectives are speaking with members of the boy's family. No reports have been released on the relative that was supposedly in the apartment when the gun was fired.
