2012 Ferrari California: Quicker, Lighter and More Powerful
Ferrari has confirmed the revised 2012 California convertible will get more power, a lower body weight and a new optional handling package.
The upgraded Ferrari California will be officially unveiled at next month's Geneva motor show. It will go on sale in Australia later this year, with the first deliveries to take place before the end of 2012.
Power from the California's 4.3-litre direct-injection V8 engine rises from 338kW to 365kW, while torque has also been bumped up 20Nm to 505Nm. The increases are the result of a modified torque curve, new engine mapping and new exhaust manifolds.
Innovative aluminium fabrication methods and construction technologies have helped reduce the four-seater's overall weight by 30kg, without detracting from structural rigidity.
The added power and reduced weight helps shave two tenths off the California's 0-100km/h sprint, which is now dispatched in 3.8 seconds.
To match the improved performance, Ferrari has developed the 'Handling Speciale' package, which includes magnetorheological dampers with 50 per cent faster response times, stiffer springs, and a new steering box with a 10 per cent quicker steering ratio for faster turn-in.
Ferrari Australia is yet to finalise pricing for the new California, although it is likely to be similar to the existing model, which starts at $459,650.
