The nominees for the upcoming Grammy Awards on February 12 were announced through a concert of live performances. How can anything be cooler than that?

The ones for the Best Metal Performance and Best Hard Rock Performance have been mixed into one so as to narrow the margins this time around. The ones that got to the list of the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance are:

  • Foo Fighters for 'White Limo'
  • Dream Theater for 'On The Backs of Angels'
  • Megadeth for 'Public Enemy No. 1'
  • Mastodon for 'Curl of the Burl'
  • Sum 41 for 'Blood In My Eyes'

The controversies that revolved around this set of nomination involved Van Halen greatly. There are rumours that he should have been in the nominations concert alongside other pop superstars like Rihanna and Lady Gaga but he did not show up. He is also said to perform on the actual awards night ceremony but there is still no official word about it.

According to the chairman Neil Portnow, everything that transpired with regards to the no-show up of Van Halen is simple to understand. They somehow expected that the legendary rock band would be at the same point of their concept of a reunion which turned out differently. Henceforth, the next best thing to do in live television is just to move on with what's up next.

"That being said, we were genuine about the intention and we are genuine about the discussion," the chairman concluded.
