2012 Mayan Calendar Doomsday Flop: What, the World’s End Rescheduled to 2017?
And so it can be told. The end of days on December 21, 2012 never happened. Neither was it predicted to happen anyway. But cultists, for some reason, still can't get over the hangover of the failed Armageddon, so much so that they have forecast the world's annihilation has been rescheduled, this time on 2017.
According to the followers of The Sword of God Brotherhood, the new date for the world's end and mankind's extinction is January 1, 2017.
In a report by the Daily Mail, cult followers said they were told by the "Prophet Gabriel" the world and mankind will die on this date. What's more, this specific doomsdayers group bragged only their cult will survive the impending Armageddon, while others will perish in hellfire.
Last Friday, the 5,126-year calendar of the ancient Mayan civilisation ended, albeit not without fanfare. The world went agog, although only a minority, when doomsdayers said December 21, 2012 meant the end of the world and its people.
The Mayans themselves had debunked the fallacy of the world's obliteration, explaining the end of the Mayan calendar meant new beginnings for the planet and its people.
Still, people can't help but be rattled. Some went out of their way to go to the holy or mysterious places where they believed they would be slaved once the onslaught proved to be true. Others hoarded food and other essential materials.
But yes, today December 24, 2012, three days after the D-Day and one day before Christmas, we are all still here on planet Earth. And suffice to say, the planet is still revolving on its axis, with the sun still rising and setting at the same average times.
So, yes, last Friday's doomsday prediction went kaput.
But doomsdayers are still addicted to the notion of the world ending, never mind if they really can't tell when exactly.
If 2017 still fails, here are two other doom-laden predictions, according to The Sun:
a) Irish saint Malachy said in 1,143 there would be 112 more Popes before the world ends. We're now on the 111th
b) After 30 years of bible study, Ian Gurney claims Judgement Day is in 2023
c) A more realistic forecast is approximately 4,500,000,000 AD, when the Sun turns into a giant star, consuming Mercury, Venus, Earth and possibly Mars.
