So it's the last Monday prior to the dreaded Armageddon on December 21, 2012, at least according to the minority of Mayan doomsday cultists who believe the planet Earth will already collapse this Friday. Although the myth had been debunked countless times by scientists, NASA and even by the Mayans themselves, it would probably do no harm to try to fill up an emergency survival bag kit just in case the crowds get rowdy and hysterical at the end of this week.

Around the world, "preppers," a growing number of people whose passion is to prepare for a range of disasters, have been gathering supplies and emergency survival bags and kits, not because they believe in the Mayan calendar doomsday end of the world thing, but for them, it's just the way their lifestyles go.

"I don't think anything unusual will happen on Friday, but there's always the possibility of other disasters at some point in the future," Jack Simons, owner and operator of Springs Road Gun Club in Hickory, North Carolina, United States, told Hickory Daily Record.

According to Mr Simons, the very basic questions one has to think and answer for themselves during times of disaster are if they and their loved ones can survive without electricity for a week, and if they have more than sufficient supplies of water and groceries. Preppers around the world will surely reply that these questions not only guide them when they gather supplies, but it also hones their survival instincts and skills.

The American Preppers Network, a non-profit corporation founded in 2008 by Tom Martin, although does not believe the Mayan doomsday scenarios either, still advised people around the world to prepare for catastrophic weather and civil unrest.

And so for Friday, the list below prepared by the American Preppers Network for an emergency survival bag kit might come in handy for those anxious of the Mayan doomsday onslaught.
