Hosts Thailand will face 12-time Asian champions China. Can the Thais, with the hometown crowd behind them, pull-off the improbable upset over the mighty Chinese spikers?

Thailand already pulled the rug under the unsuspecting Japanese in the second round of competition on Monday. They upset Japan to the tune of 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 30-28.

Recent history also shows that the Thais can keep up with the Chinese, beating them in the championship game in the 2009 edition of the AVC.

However, China remains the immovable force in Asian volleyball in this tournament, winning six games in six outings while not losing any set in any game so far.

The other semis match-up features rivals Japan and South Korea. The Japanese won the 2007 Asian title also here in Nakhon, Ratchasima, Thailand. Can they duplicate the feat again six years later?

Japan is the highest ranked team in the FIVB rankings among the semifinalists mainly due to their consistent performance in international tilts the past three years. This includes placing third in the 2010 World Championship and another bronze-medal finish in the 2012 Olympic Games.

South Korea, meanwhile, has made the Asian finals six times in 16 tries but never won the title. Can they return to the championship game and finally notch their first Asian championship?
