Although Ferrer is 5-to-1 underdog against Djokovic and trails the 26-year-old Serbian, 10-5 in 15 head-to-head matches, the 31-year-old Spaniard can draw inspiration from his huge win against Nadal in the semis where was nearly a 7-to-1 underdog.
Djokovic has won four straight matches against Ferrer. The last time the Spaniard won against Novak was in 2011 at the round robin stage of the ATP World Tour Finals.
The last two matches were in the semifinals of two majors in the past two years. Djokovic beat Ferrer at the 2012 U.S. Open with a score of 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, and then at the 2013 Australian Open to the tune of 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.
The road to this BNP final was a relatively easy one for Djokovic with wins over Pierre-Hughes Herbert, 6-2, 6-2, in the Round of 32; John Isner, 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-2, in the Round of 16; Stanislas Wawrinka, 6-1, 6-4, in the quarters and Federer in the final four.
Ferrer, meanwhile, had to go through Lukas Rosol, (6-0, 2-6, 6-3) in the Round of 32; Giles Simon (6-2, 6-3) in the Round of 16; Tomas Berdych (4-6, 7-5, 6-3) in the quarterfinals, and Nadal in the semis.
Ferrer is the current defending champion after winning the 2012 BNP Paribas Masters title versus Jerzy Janowicz, 6-4, 6-3, in 2012. The Spaniard is aiming to become the first and only back-to-back champions in Paris.
