Newcastle United will be hosting Leeds United, while Stoke City will go against Tranmere Rovers and Swansea City will look to defend their title against Birmingham City.

Newcastle vs. Leeds

Newcatle United boss Alan Pardew will be coaching the Tyneside for only the second time in on home soil in the League Cup since he assumed the managerial role in 2010.

"I am absolutely delighted with that [a home tie] and I certainly don't want to lose it," Pardew told capitalonecup.co.uk.

"I have had some really tricky away ties in domestic competitions as manager of this club."

Pardew is not taking the fixture lightly as he intends to select a competitive squad, mixing veterans like Cheick Tiote with youth players who made it through the rank such as Paul Dummett and Sammy Ameobi.

Leeds will have to resolve their goal-scoring problem if they want to secure a win against a strong United side.

Sam Byram and Lee Peltier's availability will be monitored, while Stephen Warnock is good to go.

Birmingham vs. Swansea

Michael Laudrup and the Swans are ready to defend their title at the St. Andrew's Stadium.

Despite being in the top-flight and qualifying for the Europa League, Laudrup still considers the Cup as important as any silverware and expressed that this is one of the competitions wherein smaller clubs may have a realistic goal of winning.

While Birmingham has been relegated to the Championship, Laudrup is not taking things lightly.

"They are a strong Championship side and I think they will think as we do in this competition," said Laudrup.

"They reached the final and won this competition, they know it is possible and they will want to beat us to go there again.

"They know how nice it is to play at Wembley in front of 80,000 people and lift the trophy."

Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard (on-loan from Manchester United) and Kyle Bartley (on-loan from Swansea) will not be able to suit up for Birmingham because of their circumstances.

Colin Doyle is back to take his place as number one keeper and David Murphy will take time off to prevent further trauma to his knee after featuring on Saturday, while Nikola Zigic, Akwasi Asante, Lee Novak and Hayden Mullins are out due to injuries.

Tranmere vs. Stoke

Tranmere Rovers manager Ronnie Moore expects a more clinical, rather than physical, Stoke side under new boss Mark Hughes.

Moore is anticipating a build-up coming from the back-line going forward as well as long balls because of the Potters' passing quality

However, the Tranmere mentor is concerned about his team's lack of physicality coming into the game.

On the other hand, Hughes, who who has replaced Tony Pulis during the summer, is taking advantage of each and every game to make his team grow under his system.

"The more games we can play, the better for the group in terms of what we are trying to do," said Hughes.

"At this point in the season, we are still very much a work in progress, so games will help us."

He feels that his side has finally coped from the loses that the team has incurred and must sustain their form moving forward.
