Another chapter in the book of the Djokovic-Nadal rivalry will be added on Sunday when the world’s best tennis players meet in the championship round of the 2013 China Open. Aside from the prize money and prestige of the title in the tournament held in Beijing, China, all-important ATP points are also available, which will be crucial as the ATP season nears its end.

Nadal had an easy pass in the semifinals after Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych retired after the sixth game in the opening set. Djokovic beat France’s Richard Gasquet in two sets, 6-4, 6-2, in his own final four match.

On the road to the championship match, Nadal beat Santiago Giraldo (6-2, 6-4) in the first round; Philipp Kohlschreiber (6-4, 7-6) in the Round of 16 and Fabio Fognini (6-0, 6-2) in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Djokovic defeated Lukas Rosol (6-0, 6-3) in his opener; Fernando Verdasco (7-5, 2-6, 6-2) in the second round; Sam Querrey (6-3, 7-6) in the quarters.

Djokovic currently has 11,120 points to Nadal’s 10,860-- a 260-point difference, entering the China tourney. The China Open, an ATP 500 tournament, awards 500 points to the champion and 300 points to the runner-up.

After the the 2013 China Open, Nadal will take over the number one spot from Djokovic in the ATP rankings.

Nadal has the edge in the all-time head-to-head match-up, 22-15. The most recent win, of course, happened at the 2013 U.S. Open earlier this year when the Spaniard prevailed in four sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
