Jelena Jankovic fancies that second China Open title, while Serena Williams wants to prove why she’s the number one player in the world. The Serbian and American meet in the championship round of the 2013 China Open.

To get back to the finals, Jankovic needs to win for the first time against Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova, who beat her twice in two previous career meetings.

Early on, it looked like the Czech will net her third straight victory against Jankovic after winning the first set, 7-6 (6). However, the match took a turn in favour of the Serbian in the final two sets. She dominated 6-1, 6-1, the rest of the way and advanced to the final.

“I was still there, but I didn’t feel comfortable. Then in the two other sets I felt like I went on top of her and took control,” said Jankovic to chinaopen.com after the match.

Meanwhile, Williams easily handled her semis match against Agnieszka Radwanska, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Williams has the slight edge over Jankovic in their 10 head-to-head match-ups, 6-4. The American won the last two matches—a two set (6-3, 6-1) Round of 64 victory at the 2012 London Olympics and three-set (3-6, 6-0, 6-2) championship win at the 2013 Family Circle Cup in Charleston, U.S.

Jankovic’s last win versus Williams was in 2010 at the semifinals of the Internazionali Bnl D'italia in
Rome, Italy. She took the match in three tough sets, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5).

Jankovic grabbed the China Open title in 2008, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, versus Svetlena Kuznetsova in the championship round. Williams is also a former titlist in Beijing, also winning against Kuznetsova in the final (4–6, 7–5, 6–4) of the first-ever China Open in 2004.
