A tech Web site had leaked images of Nokia's rumoured first phablet which the Finnish tech firm allegedly will unbox before the company officially becomes a part of American giant Microsoft.

This is @evleaks' image of the Lumia 1520 phablet, a Windows Phone-powered device that aims to expand Nokia's smartphone offerings and chip off Samsung Galaxy Note lines' hold on this market of palm-stretching devices.

Its large screen could display 11 x 6 rows of icons while the smaller 4.5-inch Lumia 925 could only fir 7 x 4 icons.

Nokia, even before the announced sale to Microsoft for $7.2 billion, has hinted that it is eyeing closely the mid-sized tablet market as early as February 2012. With the Microsoft takeover expected to close at the earliest the first quarter of 2014, chances are Nokia would launch its first phablet within this year as its last hurrah to come out with a standout product from competition posed by similarly sized phablets from Apple, Samsung, Sony, LG and even Huawei.

However, Tech Crunch pointed out that Windows Phone do not need bigger screens to lure buyers from Android and iOS devices but more developers to create better apps for these types of phones.

"But with Android dominating market share and iOS still leading on app monetization there's precious little reason for developers to prioritise Microsoft's OS," Tech Crunch pointed out.
