What’s life without Josh Smith for the Atlanta Hawks? The bad news is that they have not won a single game in five outings so far; the good news is it’s just the preseason. On Tuesday, they face the Indiana Pacers which are also not looking good—record-wise— exactly a week before the 2013-2014 NBA regular season begins.

The Smith-less Hawks continue to search for the right rotation in this preseason and are looking to break a three-game preseason slump. After splitting their first two games, they lost big against the New Orleans Pelicans, 105-73; got beat in a close one versus the San Antonio Spurs, 106-104, and was defeated by the Memphis Grizzlies, 90-82.

The Pacers, meanwhile, won in their last outing versus the Cleveland Cavaliers, 102-79, but lost in their previous five. They look to continue their domination of the Hawks, which they have beaten in six out of the last eight meetings.

In the loss versus Memphis, Atlanta was led by offseason acquisition Paul Millsap with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots in the Grizzlies loss. Starting point guard Jeff Teague, who signed a contract extension with the team during the summer, had 15 points and 5 assists.

With Lou Williams still recovering from a major surgery last season, the Hawks are looking for their starters in both wing spots. Kyle Korver (7 points and 5 assists) and DeMarre Carroll (9 points and 5 rebounds) appear to have the inside track in the starting shooting guard and small forward spots.

The Pacers starting five are intact from last season but they are zeroing on the players who will be part of the 8-9 man regular rotation in the regular season. In the blowout win versus the Cavaliers, Indiana's new faces in Luis Scola (13 points), Chris Copeland (15 points) and C.J. Watson (14 points) all contributed nicely.
