2013 Shanghai Masters Second Round Live Streaming and Preview: Djokovic, Nadal and Federer Start Campaign in China
Spain's Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer, Serbia's Novak Djokovic and Czech Republic's Tomas Berdych are the top seeds in the 2012 Shanghai Masters tournament, and they’ll take the hard courts on Wednesday at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center in the Minhang Disctrict in Shanghai, China.
Also opening their China campaign are former world number one and 5th seed Roger Federer and eighth-seed Stanislas Wawrinka both from Switzerland; sixth-seed Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina; and seventh-seed Jo-Wilfred Tsonga of France.
The total prize money for the Shanghai Masters totals to around US $3.2 million with over US $600,000 going to the champion.
Andy Murray holds the record for most titles and finals appearances in the history of the Shanghai Masters. He reached the championship round three straight years from 2010 to 2012 and won the title in the first two years.
However, Murray needed a surgery on his back injury in September and has pulled out of all the Asian tournaments for the remainder of ATP season.
Still, there are lots of interesting storylines to follow for the duration of the tournament.
Nadal has regained pole position in the ATP World Rankings despite losing in the 2013 China Open final against rival Djokovic. The 27-year-old Spaniard is aiming for his first Shanghai Masters title. Russia’s Nikolay Davydenko beat Nadal, 7-6 (3), 6-3 in the 2009 final.
Meanwhile, Djokovic wants to stay in the race for that World Number One tag. The Serbian is looking for back-to-back titles in China after winning in Beijing last week and wants to defend the Shanghai title he won last year over Murray in three sets, 5–7, 7–6 (11), 6–3.
