The final four matches in the opening round of the 2013 World Cup of Pool in London begins Thursday as England’s Darren Appleton and Karl Boyes opens their campaign as the second seed in this tournament with a $60,000 prize purse for the champion.

While the English pair definitely has the home-felt advantage, the pressure is on them to win after England’s other team, or England B (Daryl Peach and Chris Melling) prevailed in their opening match. Peach and Melling defeated Portugal's Manuel Gama and Guilherme Sousa.

Standing on the way of England A from joining their compatriots in the Round of 16 is the dangerous pair of Ricky Yang and Irsal Nasution from Indonesia. Meanwhile, Appleton and Boyes are two of the best players in the world. They are ranked 5th and 6th, respectively, in the World Pool-Billiard Association world rankings.

In the most recent major tournament they joined leading up to the World Cup, Appleton reached the second round of the World 9-Ball Championship, while Boyes made the final four in the same tournament held in Qatar.
