After all is said and done, it’s the World No. 1 player versus the No. 2 in the championship round of the 2014 ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom. Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Roger Federer of Switzerland renew their rivalry on Monday morning (Australian time) for the title in the final tournament in the ATP season.

How They Got to the Championship Round

In the round-robin stage, both Federer and Djokovic dominated the competition with a combined set record of 12-0. It was only in the semifinal round that they got seriously tested with both winning in tough three-set victories. Djokovic defeated Stan Wawrinka, Tomas Berdych and Marin Cilic while Federer beat Kei Nishiro, Milos Raonic and Andy Murray to advance to the final four of the competition.

Djokovic lost 9 games out of 45 games played while Federer dropped 13 games out of 50 played marking what was a very dominant performance for the top players in the world.

In the semifinals, both Djokovic and Federer had to get digger to advance to the championship. Federer actually saved four match points against compatriot Wawrinka but delivered the three set win, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (6). Wawrinka had the Swiss Maestro on the ropes at 5-4 in the deciding set but just couldn’t get over the hump and the upset. Rather, it was Federer who came out on top of the nearly three-hour match to set up the championship date with Djokovic.

In his own final four match, Djokovic dropped a set for the first time in the London tourney. The Serbian won the first set, 6-1 but lost the second 3-6 to the Japanese who was the first Asian to qualify in an ATP World Tour Finals. Djokovic then proved why he is the world’s top tennis player blanking Nishikori in the final set, 6-0.
