It was only a matter of time when two elite players meet at the 2014 Australian Open. With the top four seeds advancing to the quarterfinal round, the first grand slam of the year gets a marquee match-up in the final eight when Andy Murray of Great Britain faces Roger Federer of Switzerland. In the other QF match in the men’s singles on Wednesday, top seed and World No. 1 Rafael Nadal takes on unheralded 22nd seed Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria.

Andy Murray (GBR) vs. Roger Federer (SUI)
Match Odds: Murray (1.90) vs. Federer (1.90)
Game Handicap: Murray (+2.5) vs. Federer (-2.5)

All-time head-to-head (20 meetings): Murray leads Federer, 11-9

Sportsbooks can’t decide which popular pro is the favourite in this match with a pick ‘em moneyline of 1.9 for both. Curiously, the lower-seeded player, Federer is the one handicapped at -2.5 games for this match as Murray actually leads the all-time series between the two, winning 11 against Federer’s 9 wins.

Murray has also won three of the last four matches. The last one coming here in Melbourne-- a 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-2, victory in the semifinals.

Rafael Nadal (SPA) vs. Grigor Dimitrov (BUL)
Match Odds: Dimitrov (9.50) vs. Nadal (1.06)
Game Handicap: Dimitrov (+5.5) vs. Nadal (-5.5)

All-time head-to-head (3 meetings): Nadal leads Dimitrov, 3-0

Rafael Nadal has yet to lose a set in this tournament although he’s coming off a classic three-set win over Japanese Ken Nishikori in the fourth round. The score was close at 7-6 (3), 7-5, 7-6 (3), and was probably a good thing for the top seed since he’s not been tested in the first three matches.

Dimitrov has been tested in all of his matches, needing four sets in three of his four matches to win advance to the next rounds. The Bulgarian beat Roberto Bautista-Agut from Spain in the fourth round with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Nadal has beaten Dimitrov in three career meetings. The last two came in 2013-- in the Round of 16 of the ATP World Tour Masters Cincinnati, 6-5, 2-7, 6-2, and the quarterfinals of the ATP World Tour Masters Monte Carlo, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. It is worth noting that Dimitrov has taken a set in each of the two losses.
