What was supposed to be a close fight turned into a blowout as Serbia outclassed Brazil, 84-56 in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.

Serbia got one back from their nemesis and it came in the crucial stage of the basketball world championships after losing to Brazil, 71-83 in the group phase of the competition last Wednesday.

Serbia struggled in the group stages with just 2 wins against 3 losses in the preliminary rounds. They stepped up in the Round of 16 beating previously unbeaten Greece, 90-72 and followed it up with another convincing victory in the quarterfinals over Brazil, led by NBA players Tiago Splitter, Anderson Varejao and Nene.

Milos Teodesic set the tone for Serbia early and finished with a game-high 23 points and added 3 rebounds and 4 assists. Three other players—shooter Bogdan Bogdanovic (12 points and 6 rebounds) and big men Nenad Krstic (10 points) and Miroslav Raduljica (10 points and 4 rebounds)-- finished in double-figure scoring for the Serbians, which outscored the Brazilians, 23-12 in the third quarter to cruise to the easy blowout victory.

Brazil shot a measly 22-of-65 field goals (33.8%) missing contributions from Leandro Barbosa (5 points, 2/6 FG), Splitter (3 points, 1/7 FG) and Nene (4 points, 2/8 FG).

Serbia advanced to the final four of the 2014 FIBA World Cup and will face France on Friday (Australian time). Other national squads which made semifinals are the United States of America (USA) and Lithuania, which are schedule to face off on Thursday.
