2014 Was The Toughest Year For Nicole Kidman
It's been a tough year for Nicole Kidman. The actress has declared that 2014 has been a hard year for her who is still suffering emotionally from her father's sudden demise.
The 47-year-old Australian origin actress is still grieving for the loss of her father. The actress' father, who was also one of the Australia's top clinical psychologists, Antony Kidman, died in September following a massive heart attack.
The actress shared her feelings in a premiere of "Paddington" in Sydney. "Personally [it's been] really really really hard," told Kidman to the media persons present at the premiere. "My family underwent a massive tragedy. So not my favourite year. But I try not to be ungrateful -- I'm grateful to be alive."
Talking about the soon-to-be-released "Paddington" movie, the actress mentioned that it feels good, however, that she is at least ending the year with a film that makes others smile. The actress also admitted that she was doing films that were darker in tone and "Paddington" is a pleasant change from that.
When quizzed that if she agreed for the movie so that she could play the negative character, the actress simply gushed that she wanted to make something for her kids. Kidman is playing the villain Milicent in the upcoming movie which is being directed by Paul King.
The Oscar-winning actress is back in Sydney after three months. Her last visit was made at the sudden yet natural death of her father in September. The actress who flew in for the premiere at Event Cinemas in George St is also utilising the opportunity to spend some quality time with her mother and sister.
Apart from the personal front, the actress had roller coaster year professionally as well. Her last movie "Grace of Monaco" which was released in February failed to make any mark and was panned by critics all over the world as told by The Guardian.
However, "Paddington" which is releasing on Dec. 11, 2014 is expected to gather better response as it has received warm reviews and is topping the U.K. box office. In the U.S., the movie will hit the theatres in January. Adapted from a popular children's book by Michael Bond, the movie depicts the story of a young boy and a talking bear who catches the eye of an evil museum taxidermist played by Kidman. The voice over for the "Paddington" bear is given by Ben Whishaw.
