2015 BNP Paribas Masters Paris: Bernard Tomic sets up Stan Wawrinka clash in round 2

Bernard Tomic got off to a strong start in his opening round match at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris Percy. Tomic levelled his head-to-head score against Fabio Fognini after beating the Italian in straight sets on Monday, 6-3 6-2.

The 22-year-old Australian dispatched the Italian in 57 minutes to set up second round match with fourth seed Stan Wawrinka. Tomic struck six aces and only double faulted once in his opener. He won 76 percent and 60 percent of his first serve and second serve points, respectively.

Tomic played Wawrinka only once before, which took place during the Australia vs. Switzerland World Group playoff in 2011. The Australian beat the fourth-ranked Swiss in four sets, 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-3.

Wawrinka is coming off from his early elimination at his hometown tournament, 2015 Swiss Indoors Basel, where he lost to Ivo Karlovic 6-3 7-6(2) 4-6 in his opening round. Wawrinka claimed his fourth title this season at the 2015 Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships after scoring straight-sets victory over Frenchman Benoit Paire, 6-2 6-4.
