2015 Oscars: Full List Of Nominees, ‘Birdman’ And ‘Grand Budapest’ Leads With Nine
After the success of the 2015 Golden Globe Awards, all eyes are now on the 2015 Academy Awards with Wes Anderson's "Grand Budapest Hotel" and Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Birdman" leading the nominations with nine nods. The 2015 Oscars' full list of nominees was announced Thursday, Jan. 15, in Los Angeles by Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, directors Alfonso Cuarón and J.J. Abrams, and Hollywood star Chris Pine.
"The Imitation Game" got eight nods while "American Sniper" and "Boyhood" both received six nominations. "Whiplash" and "Interstellar" earned five nominations including Sound Mixing for both movies. Hailed as 2015 Golden Globes Best Picture, Anderson's comedy film is a force to reckon with as it sets the bar high to other nominees.
To be hosted by "How I Met Your Mother" star Neil Patrick Harris, the 87th Annual Academy Awards is presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). The 2015 Oscars is scheduled to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angles on Feb. 22, 2015.
Movies that are vying for Best Picture awards include "The Theory About Everything," "Whiplash," "Selma," "American Sniper," "Boyhood," "Birdman" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel." Directors who are competing for the Best Director award include "Birdman's" Alejandro González Iñárritu, "Foxcatcher's" Bennett Miller, "The Imitation Game's" Morten Tyldum, "Boyhood's" Richard Linklater and "The Grand Budapest Hotel's" Wes Anderson.
Funny man Steve Carell came a long way from playing corporate drone Michael Scott on "The Office" and is now one of the actors who are vying for the Best Actor spot as John du Pont in "Foxcatcher." After making films like "American Hustle" and "Silver Linings Playbook," Bradley Cooper is back in the Academy Awards and this time for his role in "American Sniper," his third consecutive Oscar nomination.
Other actors who are nominated in the same category include "Sherlock" lead star Benedict Cumberbatch for "The Imitation Game," former "Superman" star Micheal Keaton for "Birdman" and British star Eddie Redmayne for "The Theory of Everything."
