A high-tech pair of glasses, which can be used to translate menu at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, are getting people excited. The new device was revealed during a Japanese gadget fair on Monday.

Its developers, NTT Docomo, shared that the glasses will render users a different kind of perspective to the world. One of its highly anticipated functions, according to Times Live, is its ability to lay down text in the language that the wearer is familiar with to make items like menus easy to understand. This is perfect for foreign travellers in Japan where menus are rarely set in a common foreign language like English.

Docomo added that the glasses boast "character recognition technology" that can instantly translate language for its users who are travelling in another country and want to understand menus in restaurants. The technology was featured during the Combined Exhibition of Japanese Advanced Technologies.

Its other application can make any flat exterior become a touch screen with the finger ring allowing its users to see and touch tags. Other well-noted uses also include identification and facial recognition which even includes the person's job title or position.

It can be recalled that it was during the early parts of this year that Google revealed their smart glasses and expected to be up for sale by next year. One of its many features includes taking videos, photos and even reading messages. It can also get you online anytime, anywhere for as long as you are wearing it.

Many technical analysts agree that sooner or later there will be a market for these next-generation glasses. However, the only thing that hinders its fulfilment is that most customers remain unconvinced of its capacity.

Last July, the Department of Transport in the UK announced that drivers will be banned from driving the wheel when they wear such glasses, Telegraph UK reports.
