3 Years Jail In Australian Prison For Former Playboy Model Brandi Brandt Over Cocaine Smugglng
Sydney District Court Judge Peter Zahra sentenced former Playboy model Brandi Brandt to at least three and a half years jail for her role in cocaine importation.
She was part of a US-Australia cocaine syndicate that stashed the drugs in toilets on passenger jets bound for Sydney in 2007. Brandt pleaded guilty to being part of a conspiracy to bring into Australia over two kilogrammes of cocaine and transferring more than $70,000 into bank accounts, representing proceeds of the sale.
Brandt was the iconic magazine's Playmate of the Month in October 1987. She came out later on the cover twice, the first in August 1989 and the second with Donald Trump in the March 1990 issue.
She was married to Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx for eight years from 1989 to 1996. Their marriage produced three children - Gunner, Decker and Storm.
The 45-year-old former Playmate and actress was extradited from Los Angeles to Sydney on Nov 15, 2013 to face criminal charges.
In her trial, she shared her early exposure to drug and alcohol use since childhood, which started when she was 12 or 13. She was clean living during her marriage to Sixx, but she returned to her vice when the marriage broke down.
When Brandt entered into a relationship with stuntman Rusty Setser, her co-accused in the cocaine smuggling charges, it was marked by heavy drug use and violence. She described Setser, who encouraged her to use more drugs, as a ticking time bomb during a session with a psychologist.
Because the judge believes the former Playmate has good chances to be rehabilitated and not likely to repeat her offence, the judge said she would be eligible for parole in November 2016 even if her sentence is a maximum of six years.
