30 Family Members Missing in Typhoon Haiyan: Hong Kong Based Relative Seeks Out Help
With the numbers of Filipinos affected by the super Typhoon Haiyan consistently increasing, devastating stories also continue to rise. One of them is the story of a Hong Kong based relative in search of 30 family members missing.
It was with CNN that the extremely worried Daisy Nemeth shared that around three dozens of her family members are reportedly missing in Tacloban City. Nemeth is at her sixth month of pregnancy and since she has not heard from anyone in her family for three days now, she has decided to send someone to the hardest hit area to find the 30 family members who are missing.
According to Nemeth, her family members missing include her uncle and his wife and kids, her cousin who has six kids, and other cousins more.
Tacloban is the city in Leyte which suffered the most from super typhoon Haiyan. It pushed lots of water off the place's Gulf and a huge storm surge levelled all homes and brought ships ashore.
Even the buildings in the airport were destroyed by the tremendous storm surge. According to a report by CNN correspondent Paula Hancocks, the city was prepared for heavy rain and strong winds, but not too much water volume.
Most of the survivors in the place said that it could have done everyone better if they were warned of a possible tsunami. It did not help them at all as no one informed them what a 'storm surge' is all about.
