It seems that smartphones are battling over two main things: more advanced features and screen size. With the dawn of phablets, screen size seems to get bigger with newly released phones, the biggest among the leaders nowadays being the Samsung Galaxy S4 at 5-inches.

While the Z10 is a breakthrough and flagship phone for BlackBerry, it seems that the parade of new smartphones and technologies may push the company to start on the predicted four more phones (since we already know what the features of the Q10 would more or less be.

Here's a quick rundown of what the S4 has to offer, and a list of reasons why BlackBerry should start working on the other five slated BB10 devices that it has in line for the year.

If it's BlackBerry's year for a comeback, here are some of the things that it might want to look out for in one of the more advanced competitors.

The Smart Technology

One of the most groundbreaking additions that the S4 adds to the table of smartphones is its smart features. The Smart Stay, which is a tracker that notes if your eyes are looking at the screen. There's also the Smart Pause that tracks if your eyes leave the screen and will pause videos and other activities when it does.

There's also Smart Scroll which lets you control and browse just by tilting the device up and down-potentially giving another avenue that may revolutionize the "swipe touch screen" method.

Smart Alert is also part of the package, and according to TecRadar, it has already been upgraded to include Air Gestures, allowing you to swipe in front of the screen without having to touch it.

These are pretty novel ideas by smartphone standards, which may be a challenge for potential users who are looking to have a different experience when it comes to their devices.

Camera

Cameras are one of the features that smartphones have been trying to improve. BlackBerry's Z10 has also experienced the issue of low-lighting photo problems, as with other smartphone models.

And while the Z10 still prides itself for the TimeShift feature, its 8-megapixel camera has now taken the backseat to the S4's whopping 13-megapixel, an innovation, which will hopefully be available to upcoming BB10 devices this year.

A clamp-on gaming controller

Fusing devices into one package is a deal that is still being pursued today, and it seems like Samsung has decided to include the gaming route into its latest handset. According to EndGadget, the Galaxy S4 will have a gaming controller not unlike the one in Xbox 360.

The controller will feature Bluetooth, face buttons, a D-pad, dual analog sticks, and shoulder buttons. The prototype is said to also be a potential accessory to the Note 2 and 8.0.

The prototype is still in the works, but the add-on accessory does put it ahead of the pack, at least in the handset arms race.

S Translate

Backpackers and travel enthusiasts have another reason to go for the Samsung Galaxy S4 as it flaunts the S Translate technology.

All you have to do is type in your question in English, and the phone will speak in the translated language to the person you are talking to reports Digital Trends.

For now, the S4's S Translate has a limited array of languages, including English, Korean, Chinese, Brazilian Portugese, Italian, German, Latin-American Spanish, and Japanese
